Dr. Bella Shen Garnett ’89 received the Distinguished Alumna Award in 2005.

She is a board-certified orthodontist and a member of the prestigious Angle Society of Orthodontics. She continues to teach and lecture nationally and internationally. Dr. Garnett is deeply involved in clinical research focused on advancing Invisalign techniques and is recognized as a pioneer in closing traditionally surgical open bites using Invisalign alone. She has authored five orthodontic publications and founded Bella Smile, a private orthodontic practice, in 2006. In 2016, she was voted by her peers as the Invisalign Summit Case Shoot-Out Winner and is widely recognized as the leading Invisalign provider in the San Francisco/Marin area.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Garnett is a committed philanthropist and has volunteered weekly for more than 25 years. In 2000, she founded Project Bridge, a dental clinic and volunteer program dedicated to providing dental care for runaway and at-risk teens. In recognition of its impact, Project Bridge received the American Dental Association’s prestigious Community Preventive Dentistry Award in 2005.
Dr. Garnett earned her undergraduate degree from Stanford University and graduated cum laude from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where she also completed her orthodontic residency and earned a Master’s in Medical Science. She lives in San Francisco with her husband and two daughters who both attended Burke’s.
