Dr. Mary D. Piel ‘73 received the Distinguished Alumna award in 2007.
Mary is a retired pediatrician. She joined her father’s practice in 1990 after her medical training. Over the next thirty years, she took care of many children, including the children of people with whom she grew up, and then their grandchildren as well. In fact, many of her patients were Burke’s girls—she recalled how seeing the green plaid jumper would always bring smiles and cherished memories.

“I have many fond memories of teachers and friends, of the Fall Festival, morning general assemblies, science projects, and field hockey, to name a few,” she said. “To this day, my five closest friends are women I met at Burke’s. And we can still sing the school song! ‘All hail with joyous voices, the friendships…’ Burke’s will always be the most important, the most influential force in who I became. I am proud of that.”
