Filipino American History Month

Burke’s celebrated Filipino American History Month with fun-filled activities, including an All School Assembly with a guest speaker from NASA.
By the Blue Top, our Bulletin Board display highlights iconic Filipino Americans as well as a spotlight on our guest speaker Josephine Santiago-Bond. The board also includes fun facts and foods of Filipino American history and culture.

In the heart of campus, our library is stocked with books that spotlight Filipino culture and characters of Filipino heritage. From illustrated stories like Alma Fullerton and Renné Benoit’s Hand Over Hand and Anthony Robles and Carl Angel’s Lakas and the Manilatown Fish to chapter books like Adrift by Tanya Guerrero and Marikit and the Ocean of Stars by Caris Avendano Cruz, there are a variety of books to encompass all reading levels.

Last but not least, Burke’s was thrilled to welcome Josephine Santiago-Bond to an All School Assembly and for our evening Community Dialogue. She spoke to students and families about her experience as a lead engineer at NASA. She grew up in the Philippines, half a world away, and currently serves as the Chief of the Institutional Division of Kennedy Space Center Safety and Mission Assurance.

Beyond Burke’s, students and families can celebrate and enjoy these other events and resources in San Francisco:
