Jasmine “Jazzy” Gill, US Science Support Teacher & Cross-Country Coach
Jasmine “Jazzy” Gill has joined Burke’s as the Upper School Science Support Teacher and Cross-Country Coach. She is a proud Bay Area native, and “a product of a diverse ecosystem that allowed me to grow in many different forms and try on different hats”.
She holds an undergraduate degree in the Humanities and a Master's Degree in Environmental Science (Climate and Society). Her experience teaching at Slide Ranch and volunteering at organizations such as 826 Valencia have instilled a love of teaching that she is eager to bring to Burke's while she continues to develop her knowledge and skills as an educator.
She became interested in teaching when she was in high school. “I’ve been teaching in some form since my undergraduate years. I was a student with learning differences, and seeing my teachers adapt to my learning needs, and make a space where I was able to succeed, as a scientist and as an athlete, inspires me to do the same for my students.” She believes that science is important because it teaches students to ask questions and understand data, socially, scientifically, and generally.
Jazzy chose Burke’s because she’s excited about working in a space where students are encouraged to push the boundaries of thought and are celebrated for their creativity and imagination. Her favorite part of teaching science is seeing students bring fresh perspectives to the classroom. “It gives me hope, watching them grow into great scientific thinkers”.
In her free time, she likes to spend time with her dog and cat, Gus and Finn. She also enjoys making ceramics, spending time with her family, and hoping our Bay Area teams crush it on the field. (Shout out to the Giants!)
Burke's mission is to educate, encourage and empower girls. Our school combines academic excellence with an appreciation for childhood so that students thrive as learners, develop a strong sense of self, contribute to community, and fulfill their potential, now and throughout life.
