EdTech Summit Brings Educators to Burke's Campus

Since the Professional Development Institute began in 2014, Burke's teachers have enjoyed nearly a full week of time spent expanding their knowledge after classes end for the summer. For the fourth edition, Burke's PDI welcomed educators from across the region!

This year, one day of the PDI (Tuesday, June 19) was dedicated to an EdTech Summit. This consisted of a day-long series of seminars administered by experts in G Suite for Education on the many ways in which we can utilize the tools offered by Google in the classroom and across campus. Those seminars included:

  • Amplifying Student Voice with Technology
  • Bring the World to Your Classroom Using Google Geo Tools
  • Curate, Reflect, Progress: Digital Portfolios That Help Students Grow
  • Web Tools to Enhance Creativity and Critical Thinking
  • Reading & Writing in the Digital Age
About 100 teachers took part in Burke's EdTech Summit, which included about two dozen guests from schools across the region. (The furthest was Sonoma Country Day School, which sent four educators to Burke's.) Organizer Mike Matthews publicized the summit on Twitter and through postcards sent to schools across the Bay Area.

The remainder of the PDI was dedicated to teacher collaboration with colleagues (or on one's own) for creating classroom units with the Understanding by Design framework.
