Building Community, One Dance at a Time

A joyous annual event celebrating the Lower School!
The morning began with music, laughter, and hundreds of Lower Schoolers, parents, special guests, teachers, and staff coming together for a picnic and, most importantly, to dance!

Lydia Mills, Lower School’s new Music Specialist, first led kindergarteners in a “Hello Dance.” Then, she invited all of the other Lower Schoolers to join in the Virginia Reel. “I have been teaching music for 25 years,” Ms. Mills exclaimed, “but never have I led 350 dancers in the Virginia Reel! This was so much fun!”

She explained that one of her favorite memories from this year’s picnic actually happened during rehearsals. “In preparing for the picnic, I enjoyed dancing with the girls during class, reviewing all the steps, and seeing their excitement,” she said. “I loved watching all of the students and their families dancing together and having such a wonderful time. What a fabulous way to start the year, inviting families to come together, enjoy a picnic, and join hands and dance!”
