Upper School Service Day 2025

The second Upper School Service Day deepened community connections for all!
On Friday, October 17, over 130 Upper Schoolers (with the help of 45 parents) volunteered for seven nonprofit organizations across San Francisco.

Fifth Grade: Students had the opportunity to join Refuse Refuse for a beach cleanup, or head to the Richmond Neighborhood Center for a neighborhood cleanup, unloading food for pantries, and crafting 270 Halloween-themed gifts for grocery deliveries.

Sixth Grade: In addition to helping with the beach cleanup, sixth graders partnered with Compass Family Services to support families experiencing homelessness. They organized a Halloween costume closet and assembled more than 150 treat bags. Inspired by the experience, one student shared, “When I grow up, I’m going to build homes for people.”

Seventh Grade: Students worked with SF Parks and Rec to restore habitats and improve community spaces—removing invasive plants, extending irrigation, and deadwooding trees to improve the sight lines and create a meadow for picnics. Another group volunteered at Family House, which supports families of children receiving care at UCSF Hospital.

Eighth Grade: The Class of 2026 worked at two sites: the Homeless Prenatal Program by helping at its weekly grocery and supplies pantry, and the Richmond Senior Center, where they tidied storage spaces, decorated for Halloween, shared lunch with seniors, and exchanged stories—bonding over everything from exercise routines to mahjong.
