Ohlone Sisters Visit Third Grade

Third grade had special visitors this month!
As part of their study of Ohlone people, third graders welcomed a special visit from the Ohlone Sisters, cultural bearers and educators from the Costanoan Rumsen Carmel Tribe. The Ohlone Sisters travel throughout California teaching that the Ohlone culture is living and evolving, not just part of history.

Through stories, songs, and a Q&A session, the Ohlone Sisters shared their knowledge of Ohlone traditions, language, and connection to the land. Students learned Rumsen words and songs, explored traditional regalia, and learned about the Ohlone people who live in the Bay Area today. The visit held special meaning, as the school sits near a historic Ohlone shellmound at Lands End — inspiring students to think about the past and present of the land we all share.
