Cross-Country Team Takes First BAIAL Title Since 2008

After a final league race in Golden Gate Park on Monday, October 26, the Burke's cross-country team found itself with a title it hadn't held in seven years: BAIAL champions!
"The race was very tight, with Burke's and MCDS coming seeded #1 and #2, so the finals were going to essentially be a winner takes all!" says Athletic Director Ashling Bryant. "After almost 200 girls ran a mile and a half of hills and dirt trails, it was a sprint to the finish in the meadow! As expected Burke's and MCDS runners were plentiful in the top twenty spots, but we waited holding our breath to see if we had done enough."

Then, while the boys' race got underway, the printer produced the results, which had Burke's in first place by two points. Ms. Bryant took this video of the moment of victory, and Coach Susan Deemer (who splits coaching duties with first-grade associate teacher Libby Orrick '05) captured the celebration here.
