Burke’s Tradition: Eighth-Grade Musical

Each June, the eighth-grade class stages a musical that showcases the creative abilities of the students while also fostering teamwork, communication skills, and a deep appreciation for the performing arts.
The eighth-grade production is a beloved Burke’s tradition and offers an unforgettable experience that allows the students to shine and make lasting memories. The production was directed by Pamela Rickard, Upper School Drama Teacher who was joined by a professional choreographer and music director. A team of Upper School faculty,  Jil Cappuccio, Sewing Teacher,  Danielle Denton, Art Teacher, and Vanessa Miller, Makery Facilitator, led the students in set and costume design.

The students took on various roles both on and off the stage. With their creativity, dedication, and teamwork, they brought the iconic Addams Family characters to life on stage in a captivating and hilarious performance.

  • Acting: Students auditioned for roles and embraced their characters' eccentricities. They spent countless hours rehearsing their lines, honing their comedic timing, and delving into the psychological quirks of the Addams Family.

  • Set Design and Construction: Students designed and built the sets, transforming the stage into the Addams Family mansion.

  • Costumes: Students with an eye for fashion design crafted each character's distinctive look.

  • Lighting and Sound: A team of students worked on the technical aspects of the production including lighting and sound.

  • Stage Management: Behind the scenes, students managed the props, coordinated scene changes, and ensured smooth transitions between acts.

“It’s my favorite part of the school year, “ said Pamela Rickard. “This was my 25th production and I still love rehearsing the show and watching everyone come together in their final creative act before they leave Burke’s.”
