Upper School Science Support Position (Full-Time, 2023-24)

Position Description 
With world-class science teachers and labs, Burke’s seeks a Science Support Teacher who can inspire a passion for studying science in middle school students. By collaborating with and being mentored by the Lead Science Teachers from grades 5-8, student-centered, inquiry-based lessons, labs, and projects should be implemented by modeling best practices in teaching. We welcome candidates who hold, or are working toward, a teaching credential or master’s degree and possess a commitment to girls’ education. This position is a two-year position. 

Job Responsibilities include: 

  • Assist in planning, set up, supervision, clean up, and assessment of lab activities and projects
  • Research appropriate technology tools and resources for instruction
  • Collaboration:
    • With Lead Teachers to continue updating materials, resources, and technology
    • To plan, prepare, present and facilitate lessons in grades 5-8
    • To assess student progress using rubrics
    • By participating in regular science team meetings as well as attending faculty meetings and other professional work 
  • Communication:
    • Effective communication with colleagues in support of a collegial and collaborative professional community
    • Timely and supportive communication with students, parents, and caregivers to foster a strong partnership with families
  • Supervisory duties as needed recess, lunch, field trips, carpool, and outdoor education trips as well as other duties consistent with the above responsibilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent, preferably science-related
  • Previous teaching experience desired
  • Commitment to:
    • equitable and anti-racist teaching practices
    • integrating service learning into classroom projects
    • understanding the social-emotional development of adolescent girls o providing opportunities for learning through play by inviting creativity, imagination, curiosity, and tinkering into the classroom
    • implementing Next Generation Science Standards and commitment o teaching climate science

Compensation 
Burke’s offers competitive compensation with salary range $52,500 - $54,940 based on years of experience. Comprehensive benefits are provided.
